Job Description

  • The Boiler Plant Operator is generally responsible or in charge for the safe operation and efficiency running of the plant associated machinery under his /her control.
  • Boiler Plant operator will start and shutdown the boilers as and when required, also maintain, monitor performance operating conditions adjust accordingly, carry regular equipment inspections and issue work requests to maintenance staff/contractors.
  • Monitor all boiler water levels and conduct water analysis according to standard specification.
  • Carryout routine chemical test of hardness, total dissolved solids and residual chemicals in the feed water and boiler water.
  • Check and adjust the dosage of various chemicals and operation of the water softening plants to maintain the correct feed and boiler water quality.
  • To check and operate emergency equipment, (in the emergency conditions, which may arise either due to faulty or equipment failure within the boiler attendants area or outside of it, e.g. Power failures, plant
  • emergency shutdowns and troubles. The attendant has to be able to take necessary action to protect life, plant and equipment to maintain continuity of steam supplies, during upset and be able to restore
  • normal conditions quickly after upset.
  • To record and log information for subsequent analysis for record purposes.
  • Be responsible to maintain good housekeeping in plant general areas.

  • Qualifications & Experience
  • Matric / Grade 12 /Equivalent
  • Must have Boiler Operator Certificate;
  • Trained Boiler Plant Attendant with minimum 2-3 years with practical experience in firing and operating
  • modern water tube Gas Boilers /Coal (John Thompson Boilers) with and associated axillary plant will be an advantage.
  • Must have previous experience in boiler water treatment and analysis
  • Must be able to rely on his/her own judgement and experience to maintain steam supply to the factory and prevent dangerous conditions being reached on the station.
  • Must have reliable transport

Competencies

  • Must be able to work unsupervised and think independently
  • Must be able to communicate in all levels with other plants control rooms (site customers).
  • Must be able to work with a team and contractors

Must be competent in Safety ,Health and Environment
