Laboratory Supervisor

Job Summary

The CSIR has a vacancy for a Laboratory Supervisor in the Rope testing laboratory: Mining Cluster. The purpose of this role is to organize, direct and manage the rope testing operations, ensuring that quality parameters and effective service are maintained. This position based in Johannesburg.

Key responsibilities:

  • Produce accurate, reliable and timely test results in a sustainable manner ;
  • Assure adherence to laboratory quality system that complies with ISO/IEC 17025;
  • Manage laboratory operations to meet work throughput and turn-around time targets ;
  • Ensure that staff is trained and competent in all aspects of the work;
  • Maintain minimum stock levels of critical items and monitor the use of consumables to avoid waste,
  • Plan and execute method validation for the testing method;
  • Maintain and execute laboratory maintenance plan to ensure minimal downtime of equipment:
  • Interpret results obtained from tests and take the necessary actions as required;
  • Ensure that customer relationships are well managed to minimize dissatisfaction and resulting complaints
  • Resolve customer queries and complaints efficiently

Qualifications, skills and experience:

  • A National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / N6 Mechanical Engineering, with at least three years’ laboratory supervision experience;
  • Must have at least one year background work exposure to mining or mining-related activities
  • Must have knowledge of EHS system / Exposure to safety aspects in the workplace as per OHS Act
  • Must be computer literate;
  • Work in an accredited facility and a driver’s licence will be added advantages.
